Jareth watched her start to examine her knick knacks and remained silent for a long time before he finally replied. "They are messy, dirty, disgusting little creatures with an attention span of a teaspoon. They think of no one but themselves and they keep disgusting chickens as pets."

Sarah glanced over at him and then back at the small object in her hand, rolling her eyes a bit. "What in the world is wrong with chickens?" she asked, hoping that it wouldn't cause him to start ranting.

"They tried to rebel and take over my kingdom once." He continued watching her look over her knick knacks. "They are just filthy, disgusting birds that don't deserve the title of being a bird. But my goblins love them and they keep them calm so I have to put up with them."

Sarah snickered quietly to herself as Jareth spoke of his dislike for chickens. He had a way of speaking that was very strange and new to her. Therefore, her teenage brain found it hilarious. "Why are you always so proper?" she asked, turning towards him with a slight smile that was left over from her snickering.

He blinked. She really didn't know much about fae, back home he was known to be a brat, no one considered him proper at all. "I suppose that is just how fae talk, though I think if you returned to the underground and told anyone that I was proper they would laugh you all the way back to the Aboveground."

Sarah was running out of things to talk about with this man. He hardly knew how to give a straight answer to any of the questions she was coming up with. She sighed a little and walked away from the bureau, plopping back down on her bed and crossing her legs. "I'm not sure I can think of anything more to talk about."

Jareth blinked up at her. He had been boring her. He was supposed to know how to entertain children, not people he had technically proposed to. "I am simply grateful that you gave me leave to remain here for so long."

Sarah looked over at him and began to play with her hands in her lap. She bit her lip slightly then started to speak. "So, what? Are you just gonna hang around until I fall in love with you?" Then, the sentence she had just spoken hit her like a ton of bricks. In love with him? What the hell are you talking about? You can't fall in love with him. He's like a thousand years old!

He felt the tiniest pulls at his heart when she mentioned falling in love with him. That was the hope after all. However, he couldn't readily show his face back at home, not for some time at least. "I cannot return for a while. I will be run out of town if I return. I technically should not allow anyone to win, and the mere fact that you now have will make a mockery of my kingdom."

Sarah gave him a confused expression. Allow anyone to win? "You mean you let me complete the labyrinth?" She wasn't entirely sure if she was happy or furious about this. On one hand she was overjoyed that she had her brother back safe and sound. However, on the other hand, she had thought of her completion of that maze was a triumph, and, with everything he had thrown at her in an attempt to make her quit, she had been very proud of herself. Still unsure, she stared back him, deciding that she would judge how she felt based on his response.

He shook his head. "There was no let. The labyrinth is alive, and it decided that you were worthy of winning. I had no control over the situation. You are simply the first person to have made it through the labyrinth entirely."

Sarah blinked, astonished and her pride slowly returning to her. Ha! Yes! Victory to Sarah! She smiled softly and bounced a little on the bed, trying her best to seem too excited. "Well, I'm sorry that my awesomeness caused you any problems." Snickering lightly, she began playing with her feet, a childlike sense of accomplishment filling her entire body.

He snorted. "Your awesomeness means that I cannot show my face back at home for some time." He shrugged, it really didn't affect him at all. He hated being cooped up there with all of the goblins anyway, so a small reprieve was certainly in order.

Sarah thought for a moment, then something struck her. Who had all those other people been at the ball? She didn't recall seeing any of them in the labyrinth. In fact, the only people she had actually seen during that whole fiasco were Jareth and Toby. She turned her head so that she was looking directly at him and gave him a quizzical look. "Those people......at the party?"

He sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose. "Dream beings. I am King of dreams, and can manipulate dreams how I see fit. The children that I rescue go on to loving homes, so the only Fae in my kingdom happens to be myself."
