Sarah sighed and let her hands fall to sides once more, shifting her weight again and transferring it to the opposite leg. "I just don't understand. How can you be in love with me? We didn't spend that much time together at all and the time we did spend was either me running from you, you spending some strange thing after me, or...."
Suddenly Sarah remembered the one part of the her time in the labyrinth that had been tolerable. The ball. "The ball." she said, very quietly. She started thinking about it. How gorgeous the dress had been. How much had seemed to smile the entire time they were in that room.

He smiled when she remembered the ball. "Yes, the ball." The ball he made for her, the one that she was not supposed to leave. He would have happily stayed in that dream bubble with her for as long as she wanted if she only told him to. "I created that for you."

Sarah couldn't hear him. She couldn't hear anything except the music that had been playing in the white circular room. She saw them dancing and felt his hand on her waist. She saw the way he had looked at her. She heard him singing to her, looking into her eyes with that hopeful look that nearly made her cry. Then you remembered Toby and got the hell out of there.
Sarah looked over at him, her face strewn with confusion. "But, I..." She couldn't speak. She wanted to but she couldn't. She looked away from him again, her brows narrowing as she tried to piece everything together.

Jareth cocked a brow and turned his head to the side. It was obvious that she was trying to think through everything that happened, and he was completely set to allow her to think everything through. He started twirling his crystal, having it dance over the back of his hands effortlessly.

Sarah remembered his face. His face. She looked back over at him and swallowed hard. "I," she paused, shifting her weight from one leg to the other yet again. "I broke your....your bubble thing." She cupped her hands together in front of her. "Was that.....was that you trying to tell me?"

"That I was trying to tell you that I loved you, that I would gladly return your brother unharmed if you would only stay for a while?" He shrugged. "I suppose. But then you shattered the dream I crafted for you and everything came to an end." He vanished the crystal and looked up at her. "I also told you, after the staircase."

Sarah hadn't heard anything he had just said. She was still fixed on the ball. A million thoughts and memories were rushing through her head like freight trains speeding in different directions. "I can't believe you did all that just for me." She looked at him, her eyes glossed over with apologetic mist and cloudy regret. "No one's ever done anything like that for me before."

Jareth blinked at her expression. "Of course I did." He murmured. How could he explain it to her? How could he tell her that her eyes were starlight, and her hair midnight and when placed together they crafted a goddess that could walk amongst mortals. "I told you, I love you."

Sarah had absolutely no idea how to react. How is a person supposed to react when a goblin king tells them that they love them? She simply stood there for what seemed like forever, gawking at him and moving her lips as if she were trying to speak. "I'm sorry I can't return those feelings." she said, a questioning taste to her words. She didn't know what else to say except apologize for not currently feeling the same way about him.

The hope he had in his chest shattered. "I can wait." I sound like a sap. "I can wait as long as it takes precious." His foot tapped against the floor. Of course she couldn't, she knew nothing about him. Absolutely nothing besides the fact that he "stole children and turned them into goblins".

Sarah saw the defeat in his eyes and immediately tried to think of something to say that would get that pathetic look off his face. "But, I..." she paused taking a cautious step towards him. "I suppose I could give it a go."

Jareth blinked as he watched her move towards him cautiously. "Give it a go?" he murmured, hope replacing the hurt in his eyes. "What do you mean give it a go?" He blinked again and cocked his head to the side, a few blue streaks flashing through his hair.

Sarah swallowed hard and took a deep breath. "My father always says 'Never judge a book by its cover.'" She took another few steps towards him. "I guess I don't know enough about you to think that you're some evil man." She looked up into his eyes and smiled. "Mind if I get to know you?" She chuckled a bit as she asked and shrugged her shoulders.

He blinked. She wanted to what? Then Jareth noticed just how close she was. He swallowed and looked down at her. "I am an open book Sarah. Ask any question and I will answer it." He sat back on her window sill so that he was not looming over her like a glittery vulture.

Sarah moved to her bed and sat down, gripping the edge of the bed and softly running her feet along the carpet. "Just, I don't know. Tell me about yourself. What do you like? What do you not like? What are your interests?" She stared at him, waiting for him to answer her.
